Distribution

The city of Lorain Water Distribution Division is responsible for the transmission of water from the water purification plant to the consumers tap.   This involves working closely with the staff at the plant to monitor water quality and system operation.

The Distribution Department in September 2011 adopted the United States Environmental Protection Agency Distribution Systems Best Practices Guide.   This guide recommends various maintenance tasks to ensure a properly maintained water distribution system and that we can provide: a high quality water is delivered to the tap, continue operating in the event of an emergency and help prevent contamination events.  The Distribution department continues to strive to implement all aspects of the EPA’s Best Practices Guide.

The Distribution Division is responsible for the maintenance and operation of 325 miles of water mains delivering an average flow of 11,270,000 gallons per day, 2,811 fire hydrants, 4,037 valves, maintain service connections from the main to the shut off valve for approximately 23,000 customers.   Distribution employees are on call 24 hours per day, every day of the year to ensure a continuous supply of safe drinking water.
